Receiver Hitch Recommendation for a 2008 Toyota Corolla LE

Question:

I’m looking to install a trailer hitch on our 2008 Corolla LE. In looking at your website, the hitches from Curt and Draw-Tite look pretty similar. Does one have any advantage over the other? With hitches I’ve had installed in the past, they’ve gotten rusty in just a few years. Do you know which of the hitches that fit the Corolla will maintain their appearance the longest? Finally, round tube versus square, does one design have an advantage over the other? Thanks.

You are correct, the Curt and Draw-Tite receiver hitches all look very similar and also offer the same weight capacities.

The biggest difference between the two brands of receiver hitches for your 2008 Toyota Corolla is the fact that the Curt, # C11265, requires the use of stabilizing straps, # 18050, for all non-trailer loads like bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt. The Draw-Tite brand does not require these straps.

As for the finish on each of the hitches, all are very comparable. No matter which hitch you go with, it is inevitable that you are going to get a few rock chips over time so I recommend keeping a can of black Rust-oleum on hand and periodically do a quick paint touch up on the hitch. This should keep the hitch looking great for years to come.

Now for round versus square. Both styles install in the same manner and there really is no functional difference between the two. It really just comes down to appearance. Which hitch do you think would look better on the back of your Corolla? Round or Square? I vote for round!
