Parts Needed to Install a Brake Controller in a 2013 Dodge Durango

Question:

I currently have a hitch being shipped from etrailer. I have held off on the contoller and connections for the moment due to the fact that the local dodge dealer told the person I am having install it, that after it is installed it wont work unless its turned on by the dealer. They are saying that a electronic brake and connections wont work straight out of the box. Does this mean that I am at the mercy of the dealer, which is something I didnt want.

I am not sure what your dealer was thinking, but if you have a factory 7-way at the rear of your 2013 Dodge Durango all you would need to install a brake controller in your vehicle would be the proper harness.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. For an install harness you would just need the Brake Controller harness part # TK93VR.

This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

If you do not have a factory 7-way you will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the Curt Wiring Harness part # 118552.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
