Troubleshooting Trailer Blinkers Where When One is Activated the Other Blinks Dimly

Question:

Hello, my name is Kyle, i work for a company in Greenville SC and we build motorcycle trailers and the issue we have been having is when we send signal to left turn the right lights up very dim, and the same the other way around, i have checked all ground, sockets etc, no issues to be noted, we use the Ranger mutt tester with all the light function in a box to do our checks and dont have this issue on any other trailer except this specific one but the wiring is generally the same, im using the optronics 4 way flat wire plug, ive tried grounding the tester box to the tongue of the unit and the taillights from the light socket to the frame of the trailer and the same issue accurs, any ideas? thanks in bad need!!!

We had this exact same problem in our shop the other day and the problem turned out to be that the grounds of the trailer light assemblies weren't sufficient. By grounding the light assemblies better the problem went away.

You can also check to make sure that the main ground strap from the trailer connector that runs to the trailer frame is connected properly. If that does not fix the problem you can run the grounds from the assemblies straight to the main ground wire of the trailer connector. This is especially helpful on aluminum frame trailers.

I attached a couple helpful FAQ articles for you to check out as well.
