Parts Recommendation to Tow a Small Trailer with a 2010 Nissan Rogue
Question:
Hi there, I need help figuring out what I can and cant do with regard to towing things on my car. I have a 2010 Nissan Rogue. Its a 4cy FWD SL. I do not currently have any type of towing equipment on it, but I believe I am able to add some. However, Im a bit overwhelmed figuring it out on my own. Heres what I need it for Im relocating Feb 2015. What I would like to do is avoid the cost of a Pod or Smartbox by putting a small trailer on my vehicle and driving across the country that way. So my questions are: 1. Is it a safe option to put a small trailer on a 4cyl FWD vehicle? 2. If so, what kind of equipment should I look for from start to finish? My dad and I can install it ourselves, we just need ideas. 3. Is there anything you think I should know before attempting this project? I really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, Caitlin

First thing to do is check the owners manual of your 2010 Nissan Rogue to determine what the towing capacities are and if there are any restrictions. Most likely you would be good to go, but you will need to make sure you do not exceed the capacity of your vehicle with the weight of the trailer you plan on towing.
First thing to start with is a hitch. The Draw Tite Hitch part # 75902 would be an excellent choice for this. For trailer wiring you would want to start with the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring part # 118480.
Now if you plan on towing a trailer with electric brakes you will need a brake controller plus the correct install kit. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. For a kit to convert the 4-way to a 7-way you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for you to check out.
