Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 4 Bikes at the Back of an RV

Question:

I purchased the Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks - HR1400 for my RV. We loaded up 4 bikes and went camping. While driving down the road, my daughter was behind us in another vehicle and she noticed that the rack was bouncing quite abit. Now I am concerned that this bike rack is too heavy for our RV. I have a 2014 Forest River Sierra 365SAQ Bunkhouse 5th Wheel. We had a rear bumper with a hitch received welded onto the back of our RV, but I am concerned now that this bike rack is too heavy. At the time that we purchased this bike rack from our local bike store, we did not mention that it was for our RV. After using the rack, I called the bike store owner and was informed that this rack was not rated for use on RVs. What are your thoughts on using the rack on the back of my RV?

There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1400Z is not one of them though. The issue is that the rear of an RV or trailer is further from the axle than on a passenger vehicle. This creates much more movement and stress on anything at the back, like riding at the back of a school bus.

But there are options for bike racks that are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer. I have included a link to the 4-bike models for you. I recommend the Swagman XP, # S64940. It will be lighter than a platform rack, and it will not stick out as far which will minimize the stress on the hitch and frame. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.
