Adding 7-Way Trailer Connector to 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with 4-Way to Use Prodigy RF
Question:
I need to install a 7-pole receptacle on my 2013 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. When purchased, a Hyundai hitch was on the vehicle with a flat 4 connector. The trailer is a 2013 R-Pod 177 with a Prodigy RF unit installed. The trailer was bought used and the Prodigy RF was installed by LazyDaze for the original owner. I dont need a brake controller connection, but I do need the 20 amp power connection for the Prodigy RF. What is the best way to install and route the connection? Thanks for assistance.

To install a 7-Way on your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with the 4-Way trailer connector and to use the Prodigy RF mounted on the trailer, you will need # 37185. You will also need enough 12 gauge wire, # 12-1-1, to reach from the back of the vehicle to the front. The wire is sold in increments of one foot. So for 20 feet you would enter 20 in the quantity box. And last you would need a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540.
You would plug the 4-Way into the # 37185. Then ground the white wire to the vehicle frame. The blue wire will not be used so it can be capped off and stowed out of the way. The purple wire is for reverse light but if the trailer does not have reverse lights then it can join the blue wire.
The black wire is the power wire. Connect one end of the # 12-1-1 wire to it then route the wire under the vehicle and into the engine compartment near the battery. Be sure to avoid areas that may pinch or burn the wire.
Under the hood you will mount the circuit breaker. Pull the wire you ran too the circuit breaker AUX post and cut off the excess wire. Attach the wire you ran to the AUX post. Using the remaining wire attach one end to the BAT post and the other to the positive battery terminal to complete installation.
You may also want a wiring kit such as # HM51010 for various connectors, stripping tool, wire ties, and electrical tape to make the installation nice and neat.
