The first thing you will want to do is find out what the roof weight capacity for your 2012 Toyota Prius V and 2014 BMW X5 are.

A quality roof rack I recommend for your Prius is the Thule WingBar Evo. This system features premium aluminum crossbars that are some of the quietest on the market. The T-slots on the crossbars allow you to mount a variety of T-slot accessories. To order this roof rack system you need to order part # TH711400, part # TH710501, and part # THKIT1668. The bars are also available in black, part # TH711420.

For your BMW X5, the roof rack you choose would depend on the roof-style you have. If you have flush mounted side rails that run front to back on your X5 use the same WingBars only instead you need part # TH710601 and part # TH186007 to complete the rack.

If you have factory installed raised side rails that run front to back on your roof I recommend the same bars again with the Evo raised rail feet # TH710401 this time.

Finally if your X5 has a naked roof I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Roof Rack. This system features aluminum aerodynamic crossbars and locking endcaps to secure accessories and carriers to the crossbars. For this system you will need to order part # RRVA137B-2, part # RRRLKVA, and part # DK062. I have attached a link to an installation video of this system you can take a look at. There isn't a Thule system that fits the X5 with a naked roof.

For a Stand-Up Paddleboard carrier that can handle two boards, I recommend the Yakima SUPDawg, part # Y04075. This will give you a secure, safe way to carry 2 paddleboards on the roof of your vehicles. This also includes locks that secure your boards to the carrier and the carrier to the crossbars. I have attached a product review video you can check out.
