To haul a rental trailer, you will need a trailer hitch, ball mount, hitch ball and a wiring harness. Before towing a trailer, I strongly recommend checking your owners manual or with your local Hyundai dealer to make sure your Elantra is capable of towing a small trailer. Compact to mid-size cars are not really designed to tow these days, so to avoid any warranty or safety concerns it is best to check. If you can tow with your Elantra, then I recommend verifying the towing capacity of the vehicle as well. This may also be listed in your owners manual, or the dealer should be able to tell you. Unfortunately we do not have any towing information for the Elantra.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch, # 24905 if you have a GT Hatchback model, or part # 24902 if you have a coupe or sedan model. I prefer the Draw-Tite trailer hitches because they are quality hitches. All you will need is a ball mount, a hitch ball and a wiring harness.

The hitch ball will depend on the trailer that you are towing. You will want to check with the trailer rental company to see what size ball their trailer requires. If you need a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, then you can use part # 19256. If you need a 2 inch hitch ball, you can use part # 19258.

For a wiring harness, we have the plug-in style Tow Ready T-One wiring harness, # 118532, that fits the sedan and coupe models. If you have a GT Hatchback model, a splice-in harness will be required, part # C59496. Unfortunately the plug-in style does not fit the GT Hatchback models.
