Troubleshooting no Running Lights with the Hopkins 7-way to 4-way Adapter part # HM47200

Question:

I have a factory wired 2009 Chevrolet silverado with a 7 blade rv plug. My trailer is wired to match. A friend is borrowing it and has a 4 way flat connector on his Ford F150. I bought your adapter 4 way flat truck to 7 blade rv trailer. Brake and turn signals are good but there are no running lights. Are the adapters model specific? Do I need to move a wire to match my GM factory wiring? There was nothing on the package indicating modifications may be required. Thanks in advance!

The Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47200 that you referenced should work well without any modifications. It sounds like the running light issue you are seeing is on the 4-way of his F150. Use a circuit tester like our part # 3808 to test the pin with the brown wire coming out of it for voltage when the head lights or running lights of his vehicle are on.

If there is no voltage there then the problem is on the vehicle side of the wiring. Trace the circuit back looking for any cut or exposed wire and fix as necessary. You might also need to check the trailer wiring fuses of the vehicle.

I attached a couple helpful FAQs for you to check out also.
