What is the Function of Purple Wire on 7 Way Vehicle Connector for 2011 Nissan Pathfinder

Question:

During install about half way through the video the purple wire with a butt connector is not used. The installer screws the ground to the frame of the vehicle then moves on. I assume this wire is intended to connect somewhere for full functionality of the 7 pole connector. Can you provide instructions to complete?

The purple wire on the Hopkins 4 Pole to 7 Pole Adapter, # 37185, is typically used for 12V power or reverse lights. You will want to determine the function of the center pin on your trailer's connector. If the center pin is used for reverse lights, you will need to locate the reverse light circuit on the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder and splice that together with the purple wire. If it is used as an auxiliary 12V power circuit, you would run the purple wire to a 40 amp circuit breaker like, # 9510, and then to the battery using additional wire like # 10-1-1.

Our local customers that come in for installations allow us to record the process and this is where our videos come from. In this case, the customer did not plan to use this circuit so it was not connected.
