Can Higher Capacity Spring Bars be Added to Pro Series 750 Pound Weight Distribution System
Question:
I have this hitch system but just got a new Ford F150 truck and Wells Cargo enclosed trailer and will have approximately 1000 lb tongue weight. Can I purchase new bars to take my 750 lb system up to 1000 lbs? Isnt this the only difference between the 750 and 1000 lb tongue weight systems? Thanks!

The highest replacement bars available for the RB3 system is # PS58440 which have the same weight rating. I would recommend a new system. If you want to stick with Pro Series I suggest Pro Series RB2 Round Bar Weight Distribution Kit with Shank, 1,150 lbs TW / 11,500 lbs GTW Item # RE44FR. If you want a system with sway control as well check out Reese's Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 12K GTW, 1.2K TW Item # RP66560.
You are not trying to match the tongue weight of the trailer, you want the bars to be rated a little higher for the most effective system. Also, you have to take into account the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of your new F-150 and add that to the trailer tongue weight to get the total tongue weight. I have also linked a help article on determining tongue weight for you.
