Using Thule Doubletrack on Rear of Fifth Wheel

Question:

I purchased a Thule bike carrier from van- kam muskegon mi. They told me this would work on my fifth wheel trailer. Now I read they don't make one for a trailer would it be safe to use this one? Do you have any suggestions?

In the instructions for the Thule Doubletrack, Thule specifically mentions that the DoubleTrack should NOT be used on the rear of a trailer or any towed vehicle. I wouldn't recommend using the rack on your fifth wheel. Your dealer should offer you a refund on the rack, in my opinion.

A fifth wheel will generally has a suspension that is firmer than that used on a vehicle. Couple that with the extended distance between the rear axle of the fifth wheel and the rear bumper, and a rack installed on the rear of the fifth wheel would be subjected to much more bouncing and jarring than it would be if it were installed on the rear of a passenger vehicle (Remember getting bounced around sitting in the back seat of the school bus? Same principle.)

I'd recommend using a bike rack that's been specifically designed for use on the rear of a motorhome or towed RV like the Lets Go Aero V-Lectric FAT PRO Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # LGA77FR. The rack can carry two bikes weighing up to 75 lbs apiece, and is very solidly built. check out the attached video.
