Brake Controller And Wiring For 1995 Ford F-150 With 4-Way Installed
Question:
Can you recommend a product for a towing brake system for my 1995 F-150? The existing wires next to the hitch is a 4 conductor plug. All products on your site that fit my truck say 7 wayinch and I dont understand what that means.

Since you said you have a 4-way connector at the rear of your 1995 Ford F-150, you will need to add a 7-way so you can send the signal to the trailer brakes from the brake controller. I attached a link to a helpful article that explains trailer wiring.
I recommend a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. this is a proportional brake controller that will work with either electric or electric over hydraulic brake systems and is our most popular brake controller because it is so easy to install and operate.
I also recommend the plug-in wiring adapter, part # 3035-P. One end simply plugs into the port under the dash right next to the diagnostic port, and the other end plugs into the back of the brake controller.
I then recommend the part # 37185. This will be used to adapt your 4-way connector to a 4-way and 7-way connector on the rear of your truck. This will allow you to hook the 7-way connector on your trailer to use the 7-way on your truck. I have included a link to an installation video for a brake controller you can check out.
I also recommend a mounting bracket, part # C57202, for the new 7-way plug on your truck. This is a no-drill bracket that uses a clamp to secure the bracket in place.
When you are making any electrical connections I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This helps keep dirt and moisture out of the connections and prevents corrosion.
I have included some other links to helpful articles about brake controllers you may want to check out.
