Recommended Brake Controller for Towing 4200 Lb Single Axle Trailer with 2011 Chevy Silverado
Question:
You offer many different Proportional Controllers. They all have good reviews. I plan on towing a 4200 pound 1 axle trailer with a 2011 Silverado. What are your recommendations?

I would recommend going with one of the proportional controllers offered from Tekonsha. Their controllers are the most popular and highest rated according to our customers.
I'd recommend either the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160 or the Prodigy P2, part # 90885. There are two primary differences between the two controllers. Both controllers need to be installed so that they are level in a side-to-side orientation, but pointed parallel to the direction of travel. However, the P2 can be installed at any angle, as long is it is level on a side-to-side axis.
The P2 is also compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems, which use hydraulic brakes that are actuated by a brake controller that drives a actuating pump installed on the trailer.
I typically recommend the Prodigy P2, but either controller would do well for you. If you have no plans to tow a trailer with an electric over hydraulic braking system, like those found on large boat trailers or high-end fifth wheel trailers, the Primus would work just fine for you, with no need for the more expensive P2.
I have linked you to some help articles, as well as some installation and product demonstration videos you might find helpful.
