To install a roof rack on your 1996 Volvo 960, you'd need the following:

Yakima 58 inch round crossbars, part # Y00409 (Includes 2 bars)
Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers, part # Y00101 (quantity 4)

Unlike most roof rack installations, you have a bit of play as far as the bar spread goes. The bars are installed so that their spread (center to center distance apart) is between 36-45 inches apart. Rhino Rack offers the # RMCB02 roof basket, which is compatible with a 25-1/2 to 43 inch bar spread, and the Yakima rack I recommended is capable of being set at that bar spread.
