Hitch and Other Towing Accessories Needed for 2003 Chevy Malibu

Although we don't offer a kit, we do have everything needed to tow a small utility trailer with your 2003 Malibu.

You'll need a trailer hitch, a wiring harness, a ballmount, pin and clip and a trailer ball.

I'd recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12027, and for wiring, the Tow Ready Universal Taillight Converter, part # 119178KIT. The ballmount and pin and clip are included with the hitch.

You'll also need the appropriately-sized trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, you'd need part # 19257 or for a 2 inch ball, part # 19258.

According to my research, the 2003 Malibu has a maximum towing capacity of 1000 lbs. You'll need to ensure the fully loaded trailer doesn't exceed that figure. The hitch I recommended has a 2000 lb towing capacity, but you will be limited by the lower capacity of the vehicle.

I've linked you to an install video for the wiring kit. The video shows the wiring being installed on a different vehicle, but the video will give you a good idea of what the install involves.
