Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying a Electra Amsterdam with a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
Question:
Im considering the Swagman XC-2 for my 2010 Santa Fe. This note appears in the instructions for the Swagman: NOTE: The hook should always be mounted at the lowest part on the top tube. This is at the intersection of the top tube and seat tube diagram 6. Failure to do this can allow the bike to release from the rack.inch One of my bikes is a Electra Amsterdam photo attached. On this bike it will be impossible for the hook to be in this position. With an adapter bar I can level it out to some degree, but Im not sure if if can reach the lowest point. However, in the photos taken by others using the rack, Im seen none that have the hook at the lowest point the intersection of the top tube and seat tube. So, Im a little confused with this. Also, do you recommend straps for the tires or elsewhere. Thanks.

I spoke to my contact at Swagman and he informed me that the note you are referring to is more of a guideline that came from people with carbon fiber framed bikes than a hard rule for you to follow. You would be totally fine to use your Electra Amsterdam bike as-is with the Swagman XC # S64650 on your 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Check out the review video I attached for this rack as well.
If you do not have a hitch yet I would recommend the Draw-Tite part # 75684. I attached an install video for this product also.
