Question:

I am looking at using my 1993 Ford Ranger as a toad behind my motorhome. What braking system will work? It is a manual 5 speed transmission. Thanks for your excellent help.

The first thing you will want to do is check your owners manual or with your dealership to see if there are any restrictions when towing your 1993 Ford Ranger. There are a few things you will need to be able to tow your Ranger. You will need base plates, a tow bar, safety chains, lighting for your Ranger, and most states now require a supplemental brake system.

If all you are needing is the brake system I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400. This system is extremely easy to install and use. It comes with a wireless monitor that keeps you aware of any braking conditions and power levels. There is no splicing into the wiring of the Ranger and this unit is portable so you can use it on other vehicles if needed.

Even Brake consumes battery power in the towed car as you drive. Roadmaster recommends that you start your towed vehicle after towing for more than 6 hours and let it idle 15 to 20 minutes to re-charge the battery. Included monitor will also notify you when the battery power is low.

If there are other items you need to tow your Ranger you can let me know and I will be happy to help you with any of the components you need.
