Hitch, Wiring and Other Components for a 2009 Infiniti G37X to Tow Trailer of 1850-lbs Gross Weight

Question:

I have a 2009 Infiniti G37x and need to tow a 4x8ft cargo trailer from PA to TX. The empty weight of the trailer is 850lbs and I would expect to add no more than 1000lbs of cargo to the trailer. Which trailer hitch would I need to accomplish this? And would I need to also purchase a 1-7/8inch or, 2inch hitch ball and a wiring harness if needed. Would you be able to give me advice as to what trailer hitch I would need and if that hitch comes w a wiring harness or not? Thank you.

The only size and Class hitch offered for your 2009 Infiniti G37X is a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch, and we offer two. The correct fit for your G37 will depend on the version of the G37 that you have, coupe or sedan.(We don't have one for the convertible as of 10/2023). If you have the coupe, you will use the # C11493, or the # C11499 for the sedan. I have linked our main page for hitches where you can use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to select your vehicle style and see the hitch options available.

I have also linked several informational articles concerning hitch classes, installation tips and towing basics. These will give you plenty of good general background. You will also want to check your owner's manual for confirmation that the vehicle can be used to tow a trailer (not always the case) and what that capacity may be. Even if the car is rated to tow 2000-lbs (just an example) then your anticipated 1850-lb towing weight will be pushing the limits.

If you can indeed tow you will need in addition to the hitch a ball mount, hitch ball and wiring harness to operate the trailer's lights.

I linked our page for Class I ball mounts; you can select one that provides the correct height to keep the trailer level when hitched. Your choice of hitch ball depends on the size of the trailer's coupler which should be stamped or labeled on the coupler itself. You want to be sure you choose a ball that has the same ball size and shank size as the ball mount you choose.

We offer wiring harnesses only for the sedan and the one I suggest is custom-fit harness # 118480 from TowReady.
