Is It Possible To Carry The FHG49ZR Cargo Carrier With A 1-1/4" HItch?
Question:
For this carrier and others, is it OK to connect to a hitch converter as my hitch is 1 1/4inch and most of these carriers require 2. Will it be stable enough and strong enough to use a 1 1/4inch to 2inch hitch converter?

Hello Todd. We do sell hitch adapter such as part # HTAD which would allow you to carry the 22x60 Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # FHG49ZR with a 1-1/4" hitch. When using this kind of adapter/extension it is important to note that the tongue weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50%. So, if your 1-1/4" hitch is rated for 200 lbs of tongue weight, you will be limited to carrying only 100 lbs. When you factor in the weight of the adapter itself (10 lbs) plus the weight of the carrier (25 lbs), you would be limited to carrying only 65 lbs of gear. So, depending on what you need to carry, this may not be practical.
A better option is to use a carrier such as the 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145. This is compatible with the 1-1/4" hitches and would not require an adapter. Meaning there will be no tongue weight reductions and you will be able to carry a lot more gear with your hitch.

Thank you for the very informative response! One more question, as this cargo carrier would be for a Toyota Camry, I suspect it would be loaded to the ground. Is there a converter that would lift it up higher to avoid scraping on the ground?
