Choosing 5th Wheel Hitch for 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
Question:
I have a 2011 Chev 2500HD with Duramax. I am looking to get a toy hauler 5th wheel and want to the right 5th wheel hitch. 18K lbs is sufficient for me. What info do I need to the correct one? I am looking at buying a 2008 Keystone 347 THT toy hauler for reference... any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Geoff

Hi Geoff; normally we need to know the bed length and whether or not you have the prep package to find out what is required to install a 5th wheel on a truck. Since we know the 2011 Silverado 2500 doesn't have a prep package you will need to install rails and then choose a 5th wheel hitch.
I personally recommend getting a B&W 5th wheel hitch for your setup. B&W is known for their quality and makes a hitch that will give you a nice smooth ride. If you go with the Patriot you get 3/4" thick dual jaws for a sturdy connection on the king pin. It also features a non-binding cam-action latch handle that prevents binding and allows for a simple release on uneven terrain. You will need the following:
-B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2506
-B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3270 (for 6-1/2' bed)
OR
-B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3255 (for 8' bed)
The rails are industry standard so any hitch that fits ISR rails will work with these in your Silverado. If you have the 6-1/2' bed you want the slider for clearance and the 8' bed will use the fixed hitch.
It is also possible to use the Companion you looked at using the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch w/ Custom Installation Kit # BWGNRK1012. This would give you the option of having a gooseneck hitch and 5th wheel. It will also keep your bed clear since you won't need to install rails. In addition to the Turnoverball kit you would need one of the following:
-B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3400-5W (6-1/2' bed)
-B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3500-5W (8'bed)
I attached some installation and review videos below for your reference.
