Will Battery Disconnect Work With 2004 GMC Canyon Instead of Pulling Fuses
Question:
I have a 2004 gmc canyon 4x4 that bought sm99251 braking system for. My questions are, the owners manual says to flat tow after putting transfer case in netural to do the following: Turn the ignition to LOCK. To prevent your battery from draining while towing, remove the RDO BATT and CLSTR fuses from the instrument panel fuse block.. First it seems like to me you want the ignition unlocked so steering can turn when towing??? Whats the purpose of pulling the fuses?? Also to avoid pulling fuses could I use a battery disconnect switch to achieve the same results?? Thanks John

The steering wheel shouldn't be locked when flat towing since the wheels need to be able to turn. I'm assuming since the manual says to turn the ignition to lock that it won't be a problem and still allows them to turn. It is always important to follow the owner's manual when flat towing. If you really want to be sure I would talk to your local dealer about it first.
Pulling the fuses helps you avoid a dead battery since it drains the battery while towing. I suppose you could install a battery disconnect like # RM-766 but you're going to lose all of your electrical presets. You could also use a fuse bypass like # RM76511 which will kill the circuit with the flip of a switch. I attached a link to all of our available fuse bypasses below for your reference.
