Comparing The Curt # 31604 And Draw-Tite # 65003 Front-Mounted Trailer Hitches

Question:

Hello I’m interested in a front hitch for my 1995 Dodge ram 2500 4x4 diesel. I’m comparing the Curt 31604 and Draw tight 65003. My question is in relation to the final location of the receiver. Is one hitch’s final location higher up or closer to the lower edge of the front bumper? Meaning better ground clearance. The other question is concerning stick out or recession in relation to the front bumper. Which sticks out farther? It appears from the available photos that the Draw tight is mounted higher and further forward, and the Curt is lower and further recessed, but it is hard to tell. Any insight or specifications would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Shawn,

The dimensional differences between the Curt # 31604 and Draw-Tite # 65003 are so miniscule that there really isn't a better option from this point of view. The pictures are from different trim packages so it can be a bit deceiving on how it will actually fit with the front fascia. Both hitches are using the same mounting location so it's really going to come down to quality.

In my experience Curt has been the better option as they're hitches don't tend to get as bent up in shipping as Draw-Tite and their paint job does a better job of not flaking off. The safety chain loops are also more prominent so you'll have an easier time hooking onto them if you need them to pull someone else out of a ditch or have yourself pulled out as well. Because of these reasons I recommend going with the Curt # 31604.

Pro-tip: Don't cut any of the fascia until you dry fit the hitch in place to avoid cutting too much.
