How to Determine the Right Weight Distribution System
Question:
Weight distribution

Expert Reply:
When choosing weight distribution you will need to go by the total tongue weight. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
Reese system # RP65509 is designed with a tongue weight capacity range of 200 to 600 pounds. This system includes everything you will need except a properly sized ball. You would use # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch. If you wanted to add sway control use # 83660.
The brackets of this system will be mounted 30 inches back from the center of the coupler ball cavity. The brackets are 5-1/2 inches wide so the trailer frame needs to be clear from 27-1/4 inches to 32-3/4 inches back along the frame on each side.
