Can you Increase The Tire Size On A 2014 Forest River Salem Cruise Lite West T261BHXL

Question:

I have a I have a 2014 Forest River Salem Cruise Lite West T261BHXL. The tires on it now are 14inch ST205/75R14. Im looking at buying 5 # AM32545 Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Tire with 15inch White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2. The lug nuts, 5 on 4-1/2inch is right and the wheel center pilot hole is right. The distance from center hub axle to center hub is 33 If I did my math right... With the Outer diameter when inflated: @ 28.4inch the I should have about 4 inches between the tires. Do you think these will these work for my Camper?

Hey Randy,

With a 33" spacing you'd have approximately 4.6" between the tires of the # AM32545. You'll want to also measure the vertical distance between the tire and fenders as well as the horizontal distance between the tire and trailer body/frame. You'll want to have at least 1" for the horizontal measurement and at least 3" for the vertical measurement when the new wheels/tires are installed to accommodate suspension travel.

Thank you Keven. One thing I am considering is increasing the height with the leaf springs. Can you recommend a dual axle trailer springs Over-Under Conversion Kit for my Forest River 261BHXL? Would using a conversion kit be as stable as larger/wider rim/tires? Thank you.

@Randy To find the correct over-under conversion kit for your trailer you'll need to measure the diameter of the axle tube. The Dexter # K71-384-00 is designed for 2-3/8" diameter axles and the # K71-385-00 is designed for 3" diameter axles. These will raise the trailer's height by the diameter of the axle as well as the height of the leaf spring stack. Larger wheels/tires are only going to give you a slight increase in height in comparison.
