Can The Viking Solutions Rack Jack II Hoist 310-VRJ001 Be Used For Removing A Fifth Wheel Hitch?

Question:

I recent purchased a # BWRVK3670 hitch and am looking for a means to remove and reinstall it by myself. Do you think this would work? Will the 310-VRJ001 lift the hitch on and off the the pucks or will I have to manually move the hitch to connect it to hitch mounted hoist? Is there another solution that you recommend that minimizes the need to manually lift or move? Thanks.

Hello Alan, that # BWRVK3670 slider hitch certainly is heavy so I know exactly where you are coming from. The Viking Solutions Rack Jack II Hoist # 310-VRJ001 will certainly make removing and reinstalling the hitch by yourself much easier.

Firstly, I suggest removing the hitch from the bed in two sections. You can easily remove the head from the base. The head itself weighs about 70 lbs. This will leave you with just the 230 lb base to hoist out of the bed.

We have had several of our customers actually use this # 310-VRJ001 hoist for lifting a heavy fifth wheel hitch out of the bed. I have included the picture below to set an example of what that will look like. As you can see the top of the hoist would be positioned basically right where the tailgate and the bed meet.

If you were to hoist the hitch directly off of the pucks, my only concern would be the hoist may "drag" the hitch across the bed slightly. This could cause damage to the bed potentially. If you have a bed liner this would help. Or you could put some kind of material, like a sheet of plywood or something, under the hitch to protect the bed. I suppose you would have to move the hitch in like this one way or another, whether you do it manually or with the hoist. I think either way will work though, just crank slowly and be mindful of damaging the bed.

Aside from this, I do think the # 310-VRJ001 hoist will work well for this purpose. I wanted to include the screenshot below of a review from one of our customers. They used the # 310-VRJ001 hoist for a fifth wheel hitch just like you are wanting to do. I feel this review is informative and sets a realistic expectation of how this hoist will perform. You can feel free to reach out to me if you have further questions.

Thanks Jesse for your quick response. I don't see your picture or screenshot pic of the the review you mentioned. Sounds like this option might work.

@AlanC Hey Alan, sorry about that. Sometimes the pictures can take a while to load. If you check back they should be visible on there now.
