Can I Put A Roof Top Tent On A 2007 Mini Cooper hard Top With A naked Roof?

2007 Mini Cooper S R56 Hardtop/sunroof Naked or no rail 2 drs and hatchback What is dynamic roof weight for this car? 165 lbs? Do you have racks for this specifications? Im seeking rooftop tent for travel. I want to be able to carry it safely for trips. Thanks

Hello Scott, we do have a 165 lb dynamic capacity roof rack for your 2007 Mini Cooper S naked roof hardtop. For that I recommend the Inno Aero Bar Roof Rack. The full roof rack consists of the following parts:

Inno Aero Crossbars # INXB115-2

Custom Fit Kit # INK456

That said, I cannot recommend carrying a roof top tent with this roof rack or with this vehicle at all for that matter. This rack uses a fit kit that clamps to the door jambs. Roof top tents are only compatible with roof racks that install to raised side rails, flush rails or fixed mounting points. Roof tents are not compatible with roof racks that clamp to the door jambs, which for your naked roof Mini, is the only option for a roof rack.

I do not have a way to tell you the specific dynamic roof capacity for your Mini, and I could not find anything concrete listed online. A dealership would be able to provide you with that info. It really is a moot point though since the only available roof racks are the door jamb clamp on style, so you couldn't use it for a tent anyways. For these reasons we cannot advise that you use this vehicle for a roof top tent.

Roof tents, such as the Yakima SkyRise HD # Y07437 are generally only recommended for a truck bed ladder rack setup, or for vehicles that have raised, supported siderails and a reinforced roof structure.
