The first thing you will want to do is consult the owners manual for your 2013 Ford F-150 for specific information on flat towing it.

You will need 5 basic components to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.

For base plates on the truck I recommend the Demco kit # DM9518296. I've attached a picture that shows how they'll look once installed.

For a compatible tow bar you can use the Dominator # DM9511008 which is rated for 7,500 pounds. It also includes safety cables so you will not need to add any additional cables.

For lighting you can use # HM56000 which plugs in line with the tail light wiring. It will fit truck models with or without EcoBoost.

And finally, most states require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400. It will apply the F-150 brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have also included a couple of helpful links to our series of articles on flat towing for you.
