Is a Weight Distribution Hitch System Required When Towing a Airstream Trailer Weighing 4,300LBS?

Question:

I have a WDH made by Husky. Watching videos on YouTube saw many A Frames made by Lippert get bent when hitting pot holes, speed bumps, etc. Is a weight distribution hitch required for a trailer under 5000 pounds? We are towing with a 2021 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 Off Road TRD, 6500 pounds tow rating. Travel Trailer is a Airstream 2023 Caravel 16 RB, 4,300 pounds. Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide

A weight distribution hitch is not required for towing any trailer but they do make it safer. I personally have never liked the round bar style hitches like Husky makes and always recommend units like the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-0800 since it uses a straight bar. These do not hang down a low as the round bar systems so they will not drag going over speed bumps or when you hit pot holes.

As long as you are staying within your towing capabilities and your Tacoma is not overly sagging from the tongue weight you do not have to have a weight distribution hitch. We do have an Electronic Sway # 335TSC-1000 or Friction Sway # 17200 you can use to help protect against trailer sway. For the friction sway you will need a ball mount with sway tab like the Curt # D320.
