Can A Furrion 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch Replace An Elkhart LPT50MRD Transfer Switch

Question:

Will the F50ATS replace my Elkhart LPT50MRD. Switching between a 4000w Magnum inverter and either shore power or generator?

Hi Les,

The Furrion Automatic Transfer Switch # F50ATS will be a compatible replacement for your Elkhart LPT50MRD transfer switch. That being said, a 4000w Magnum inverter would wire into your main panel and a sub panel and would automatically kick on to power the sub panel when shore power is lost. Transfer switches like the # F50ATS are for switching between generator and shore power. Your inverter is only putting out 30 amp service so the 50 amp transfer switch would never sense the inverter and kick over either. I've attached a diagram below of how the inverter needs to be installed.

I apologize i've been traveling. but a quick followup. I am using the 4000 W Magnum as a backup when power goes out. The generator and shore power are on an "A or B" type switch and the Magnum kicks in instantly when the power is dropped. That puts 110 vac on the boat on the house batteries.

@Les If your 4000w Magnum Inverter has an internal transfer switch then yes, it would automatically kick on when shore power/generator power is lost and pull power from the battery bank to power the sub panel. You'll want to check the owner's manual for your specific inverter to confirm.
