How To Remove A Curt Pop-In Ball C60601 With A Broken Release Lever

Hello, I have the exact problem on my 2016 Ram 2500 as How to Remove the Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601 with Broken Release on a 2016 Raminch The twist release broke off of my hitch ball and Im unable to release it from the truck. I see a couple of comments about a plug. Do I have to get under my truck to get to the plug? I dont see one next to the ball in the bed of my truck. Im a gooseneck hitch newby and need more guidance! Thank you.

Hey Grace I am happy to try to help you get the broken Curt Pop-In Ball # C60601 out of your truck. This is a known issue with these gooseneck balls with the built in release lever on top. You will have to get up underneath the truck in order to release the ball manually. There is a plastic plug on the bottom of the hitch ball (see pic below). Remove the plug and you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to manually turn the paddle which will allow the ball to retract. Hitting it with some WD-40 or penetrating oil may help to move things along. Since the top lever is broken this is going to be the only way to get the ball out. Aside from maybe taking a hammer and using pure brute force, which we generally try to avoid.
