Is Blue Ox Tow Bar Needed For Blue Ox Base Plates on 2010 Scion xD
Question:
I bought a 2010 Toyota Scion XD that has a Blue Ox base plate installed. I plan on flat towing behind motor home. I will need a tow bar ... Will I need to buy a Blue Ox tow bar? If so which one will fit my base plate? Would any other brand of tow bar work with my Blue Ox base plate? If so which ones.

Hey there Don, that's a good question as there's a lot of different tow bars available, and the answer is no, you are not limited to only a Blue Ox tow bar for your 2010 Scion xD using Blue Ox Base Plates # BX3778.
That said, it is easier and I do recommend going with Blue Ox as your first choice because you won't have to use any adapters; so if it were me I would go with the Blue Ox Alpha 2 # BX7380. But if you're okay with using adapters there are tow bars that come with them, the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates # RM-525 or etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates # e47ZR.
If you want to go this route you most certainly can, and between these two the best option is the # e47ZR because it is non-binding with levers that make it much easier to disconnect than the # RM-525, and it comes with safety cables, which the Falcon does not.
Also, if you need the other parts to complete your Scion's flat tow set up, you can use the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494 and Wiring Kit # RM-15267.
