If the hinge/strut of your Sportrack Box SR7040 looks like the part # TH14933 then it would work but we don't have an extensive list of all of the older Sportrack boxes this fits. We know most of them but not all of them unfortunately.

The difference between the Thule hinges or struts #TH14936 and #TH14933 is the spring tension. Both of these hinges will work for your Sears X Cargo Sport 20 lid. However, the #TH14936 includes better springs.
