Help Allowing SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs To Fit a 2007 Cedar Creek 5TH Wheel Camper

Question:

Good Morning I am looking at purchasing the SS26MV Sumo springs for our 2007 Cedar Creek 5th wheel. The axles are 6k rated and this kit seems to be the right one. The spring plate on top of the leaf springs is 4 1/2 inches wide. I think this is from shocks the last owner removed. What is the best way to reduce the spring plate down to the 4 1/4 width needed for these Sumo spring brackets? Thanks

You are correct the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV are the correct choice for your 2007 Forest River Cedar Creek 5th wheel having overslung 6,000lb axles. Do be sure to order a kit for each axle.

For the spring plate it may be best to get all new plates and U-bolts # CE23003 for each axle. This hardware is coated to help prevent corrosion unlike the factory parts which are usually painted steel. If your hardware is still in good shape you will most likely want to just grind off around 1/8" on each side of the current plate to allow SumoSprings mounting bracket to fit. You only need to grind the area the hardware sits and not the entire plate.
