Question:
Is there any reason why a trailer connector should not be mounted so that it faces downward toward the ground?

Expert Reply:
If the vehicle side trailer connector is pointed towards the ground then what can happen is the increased likelihood of debris and moisture getting into the connector leading to corrosion and malfunction of the connector.
Also, when a trailer is connected, the ground clearance will be reduced and could result in damage to the trailer side connector or the wiring leading to it.
