Question:

I will be towing a 1250lb. 14ft long boat with my 2005 Honda Element. Should I set the ball mount up for a 3/4inch rise or 2inch ? Thanks

You will want to choose the ball mount that comes closest to placing your trailer so that it is level when towed.

To determine the rise or drop of ball mount you need, measure the distance from the ground to the inside top of your receiver tube. Then, with your trailer jacked up so that it is level, measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler. Subtract the two measurement, and the difference between the dimensions will equal the rise or drop needed. If the receiver is taller than coupler, you'll need a ball mount in the drop position. If the coupler is taller than the receiver, you'll need a ball mount that rises. You might not be able to find a ball mount that places the trailer exactly level, but if you can get within 2 inches of level, you'll be fine. Having the trailer a bit tall in the front is preferable to a bit low.

The average coupler height is around 16-21 inches. The rear bumper height of the Element isn't very tall, so I'm guessing you'll need a ball mount with a rise.

The help article I have linked will show exactly how to take the measurements.
