Troubleshooting Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Installed in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Question:

My prodigy 2 controller stopped working on my 2001 suburban. After using it 4x the brakes will only work when manually turned on by hand on the controller. I have set up up to the highest setting and it makes no difference. All lights work and controller shows good connection.

Since the brakes work when you use the manual override, the first place that I would check is the fuses on your 2011 Chevy Suburban. I recommend starting with the fuse box under the hood and make sure that the fuse labeled CHMSL is good. CHMSL stands for Center High Mount Stop Light, the light at the top of the rear hatch of your Suburban. Since it is triggered with the brake lights this might be causing the issue you have with the Prodigy P2 brake controller.

The next place to check is the red wire input for the brake controller. This wire is the brake switch input from your Suburban. If you hard wire installed the brake controller, I would check the connections and make sure they are sound. To test this, you will want to use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 and press the brake pedal while probing the vehicle side of the red wire connection, and make sure that the signal is being sent from the vehicle.

If you used a quick plug-in adapter for installation, please make sure that you are using the correct adapter. The adapter that you need is the # 3025-P, or the # 3025-S adapter. Please make sure that you are using the correct adapter with the correct pin locations specific to your 2001 Chevy Suburban.

If you have checked the options listed above and are still having these issue, please feel free to reply to me via e-mail, and I would be happy to assist you with additional troubleshooting.

I have included links to the part referenced above and a couple of helpful articles about installing brake controllers for your reference.
