7-Way Connector For 2013 Explorer Limited With Existing 4-Way Connector
Question:
I recently had a ford fitted tow hitch fitted to my 2013 Ford explorer limited. However when I collected it I noticed that there was only a four pin connector. My travel trailer some 3000lbs has a seven pin plug to provide for the electric brakes. It also has a weight distributing hitch. Firstly can a seven pin socket be fitted and where do I locate the brake controller plug...assuming it is pre wired for this

Since you have the 4-Way connector installed on your 2013 Ford Explorer, you can then install a 7-Way connector like the 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. The 4-Way you currently have will plug into this unit. It includes the 7-Way connector and all the wiring and accessories needed work on your vehicle. I have included some links that show and explain the part # ETBC7 installation for you.
If your Explorer has the port for the brake controller, it will be located on the driver side of the vehicle just under the steering column under the dash. It is a gray plug and you can see what it looks like in the video I have attached.
If you do not have a port under the dash for the brake controller harness, I have attached a helpful article that explains installing a brake controller form scratch.
