Maintenance Instructions for Greasing a Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System

Question:

I live in a very dusty location SW Idaho. Is the greased joint of the bar to hitch joint sealed from dust? I see that it has a Zerk fitting for greasing, this is good, but if its open then dust will eventually get into the grease and damage the ball bearings. thanks

No, it's not sealed. Dust will work it's way into there eventually if you don't maintain it, which is why Curt directs people to brush grease on the inner and outer bearings on the top and bottom of the Curt TruTrack item # C17499 along with filling the grease zerk until it pushes grease out. You will want to lubricate these points daily when in use.

If you follow these procedures before each use you will be able to maintain this system and not damage your bearings even living in dusty conditions. I have linked a picture below I pulled from the instructions to illustrate what I am talking about.

I highly recommend using the Lubrimatic Biobased LMX Red Grease item # L11390. This grease will do a great job of fighting the elements and lubricating your bearings.
