Best Way to Raise Height of 1997 Featherlite Model 8545-S Horse Trailer

Question:

I recently purchased a used 1997 Featherlite Model 8545-S Horse Trailer that comes with OEM tires that are 235/85R/16F. My 2019 F-250 already sits higher than older trucks and has slightly oversized tires 35”. What is the largest size tire I safely can fit on my trailer?

Expert Reply:

Your trailer tires are the largest for a 16" wheel and they fill out the wheel wells pretty fully so a lift kit will be more effective at raising your trailer and maintaining the clearance you need to keep your tires from contacting your trailer.

I recommend going with the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 as a starting point. This places your axles under your leaf springs so your trailer will be lifted the height equivalent to your leaf spring stack height and the diameter of your 3" axle.

If your axles are already located under your leaf springs then the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit # RR23QX is the next best thing. This raises your trailer height up to 2" and installs on your leaf spring hangers to accomplish this.

Attached are some review videos for you to check out.
