Should The Air Lift Air Helper Springs Have Some Sort Of Spacer When Installed 2012 Honda Odyssey?
Question:
During installation of the AL60815 kit, the jounce bumper is removed and discarded. There does not seem to be a plate to mount in its place for the airbag to work against on the top side, thus the bag is pressing on the jounce bumper mount which is a fairly small area compared to the diameter of the bag. It seems like this could impact the long-term longevity, and some kits offered by Air Lift do include some type of upper plate as shown in the attached picture. People have recommended the Firestone Kit, which includes one in the kit for the 2010 Odyssey, but they dont seem to make a kit for the 2012 Odyssey. Do you have a recommendation? Thank you.

There is big misunderstanding on how the air springs which fit inside coil springs like the Air Lit # AL60815 for your 2012 Honda Odyssey work. Many think the air spring inflates vertically like a traditional air spring but on these they actually push out between the coils. This helps to prevent how much the coils compress under load. With the air line running out the bottom of the lower control arm this helps to keep the air spring at the bottom of the control arm keeping it away from the suspension cup in question. Remember the air springs do have a lifetime warranty and as long as you install the system per manufacturer specs they are liable is something were to happen to one of the springs. By adding any type of spacer this means you installed it outside of the manufacturers specification and if something were to happen to the springs the warranty would be void.
