Installing a Brake Controller on a 2016 Honda Odyssey
Question:
Hi Im having a tow package put on my 2016 Honda Odyssey and they are going to put both 4 and 7 way on. Im going to be towing a popup camper with 7 way plug and electric breaks. What would be the easiest way to install a break controller? Thanks.

The parts needed and steps taken to install a brake controller, like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, on your 2016 Honda Odyssey will really depend on what they are wiring for your 7-Way. If they have wired all of the functions then you will simply need to connect the 4 wires from the pigtail on the P3 to the following functions:
White - Ground (negative terminal on battery)
Red - COLD side of Stop Light Switch (wire that gets hot only when brake pedal is pressed)
Black - 12V Power (positive terminal on battery)
Blue - Brake Controller wiring to 7-Way
To connect power and your ground of the P3 to your 12V battery you will need some 10 Gauge Jacketed 2 Wire # 10-2-1, Butt Connectors # DW05745-5, Ring Terminals # DW05762-1, and at least a 20 amp Circuit Breaker # PK54520. You will also want to use a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 to find the cold side of your stop light switch.
If you need to run wiring from your 7-Way and 4-Way to your brake controller then you will want to use 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and one of the Butt Connectors that I mentioned before.
If, by chance, your installers did not run wiring from your battery to your 7-Way and 4-Way connector for 12V power then you will want to use the Wiring Kit # 5506 to make the connections for your 12V power and your brake controller.
I have attached an installation video of a Prodigy P3 # 90195 and our Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 being installed on a 2011 Honda Odyssey that you can use as a reference to install the P3 and if you need to run wiring.

Hello, I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey with the factory installed 4 pole plug and hitch. I'm looking to upgrade to a trailer with single axle electric brakes so I need to update to a 7 pole and a brake controller. I'm looking at the Curt #51180 controller but I'm unsure what I would need to upgrade the 4 pole to a 7 pole in this instance? Is the ETBC7 the way to go or does this contain more than I need? Thank you,
