Solution for a Nose High 5th Wheel Trailer on a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 Short Bed w/ Puck System

Question:

I recently purchased a new truck, going from a 2500 Chevy to a GMC 3500 single wheel drive, had a 4400 pullrite superglide, when going from one to the other I had to utilize two adapters for the puck system on the GMC. Due to the height of the new tow vehicle and the multiple adapters used. My GD 380 fl is now nose up, approximately one foot from nose to tail , I’m unable to get up our driveway tail drag. Not only that but inability to load and travel safely. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on the new truck! I have a combination of suggestions that will get your Grand Design closer to level with your Silverado 3500. I'd like to start out by saying your current set up with using two adapters and your 4400 Pullrite Superglide is not safe or recommended. There's too many moving parts and potential for eventual failure is high.

The first suggestion is to raise the height of your Grand Design. It looks like your axles are already below your leaf springs so you can use the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit item # RR23QX. This kit mounts to your spring hangers and moves the attachment point down 1-1/4" or 2-1/4". This raises your trailer up a corresponding amount. Still a long ways from 12" but it is a start.

My second and most important suggestion is to replace your current 5th wheel hitch set up with one specifically designed for a brand new truck. I recommend using the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3775. This 5th wheel hitch has an adjustable height of 17" - 19" measured from the bottom of the corrugation in your Silverado's bed. It mounts directly to the factory puck system without the use of adapters. This solution is not cost effective but is the best option to solve your height issue.

I recommended the slider Companion based on your use of the Pullrite Superglide. If you new truck has the standard 8' bed length you'll want to use the fixed B&W Companion item # BWRVK3710. It has an adjustable hitch height of 16-3/4" - 18-3/4".
