Recommended Hitch for a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 w/ OEM Puck System and Tapered Nose 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

About to purchase 2024 Jayco Eagle 321RSTS 5W. Dealer pushing hard for me to buy a pullrite 4500 Slider for my 24 Sierra 2500 with 6’ 10” bed an OEM package. Super heavy and at 24k more capacity than I need. Any chance Eagle tapered front end cap would allow me to go with a non sliding BandW hitch. Really want lighter hitch and to be able to remove it when not in use. Thx

Thanks for the picture and congrats on your brand new trailer and truck. We hear this about pushy dealers all the time, I would not buy a Pullrite Slider.

I took a look at the nose on 2024 Jayco Eagle 321RSTS 5W and it has a super tapered front end cap. With how low of a profile it has and the kingpin extending out so far you should have plenty of clearance to the back of your cab using a standard 5th wheel hitch like the B&W Companion item # BWRVK3710.

The B&W Companion item # BWRVK3710 is confirmed to fit the puck system of a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500. It weighs 153 lbs.

To confirm you have enough room there is a formula we use. You will want at minimum 4" of clearance between the cab and the front cap on your 5th wheel trailer.

The formula to determine 5th wheel turning clearance is pretty straightforward and is expressed as:

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of 5th wheel hitch jaw to truck cab. Use the center of the pucks since you don't have a hitch.
B = Length of pin box arm
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

If you have less than 4" you can use the Sliding B&W Companion item # BWRVK3775 over a Pullrite Slider. The Companion base will give you an extra 12" of travel and has the same reliable head as the fixed Companion item # BWRVK3710. It weighs 251 lbs.
