Recommended Option To Prevent A Bumper-Pull Trailer From Hitting Your Bumper
Question:
Maybe you can help. I pull a 2 horse bumper pull with my RV and a few weeks ago I was backing it in to a camp spot and it jack knife and hit my bumper. I am looking for something that can detect the trailer before it hits my RV. My backup camera is useless in this situation as it only sees the front of the trailer. Do you have any suggestions? I am replacing the side mirror which should some.

The monitoring systems we offer, including the Cub CU62XR you were looking at, would detect the trailer at a slight angle so it wouldn't really be useful in your situation since it would activate too soon and not really prevent you from jackknifing and touching the bumper. These systems also will typically require you to be travelling at 15mph so backing in a space wouldn't really meet these requirements.
The best solution would be to install a camera, like the Furrion Vision S Wireless RV Backup Camera System # FOS43TASF, on the front of the trailer to be able to see the tongue's position by your bumper. This camera system needs 12v power so you could easily run a line up to it from the junction box for power.
