Recommended Bike Rack for a 2012 Volvo XC 70
Question:
We have a 2012 Volvo XC 70 and want to know which trailer hitch bike racks for 2 bikes are compatible with this vehicles trailer hitch. Were also looking for a bike rack that allows easy access to the back of the car, since we will be traveling with a hand cycle in the back. Our car's hitch has a 2" receiver. We'd probably only carry one bike on the trailer and it weighs about 35 pounds. It's an old Raleigh Sport. I am planning to replace it at some point but the new one hopefully will be lighter. Occasionally, we would carry 2 bikes. The second bike is a new bike and is very lightweight. I'd also like a rack that swings away from the back of the car so I can open the hatchback to retrieve my husband's handcycle. I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Thanks for all the information! The best swing away bike rack for your Volvo is going to be the Yakima FullSwing Bike Rack item # Y02465. This hanging bike rack fits a 2" receiver, weighs 56 lbs, and has a 40 lbs per bike capacity. It is made to handle up to four bikes at a time but will perfectly with only one or two. All of the hanging style bike racks like the Thule Hitching Post Pro item # TH934XTR you were looking at come ready for four bikes.
The swing away function opens towards the passenger side 90 degrees to give you full access to the rear of your car.
If you are interested in a platform style bike rack we also have the RockyMounts BackStage Bike Rack for 2 Bikes item # RKY10002. This bike rack also swings towards the passenger side. It has a heavier 60 lbs per bike capacity and uses wheel mounts to secure your bikes to the carrier.
