Recommended Hitch for a 2019 Ford Escape w/ a 4 Bike Bike Rack
Question:
I have. 2019 escape. I want to get a bike rack and one that can carry 4 bikes. Since I have to have a hitch installed I can choose class 2 or 3 1.25 or 2. Should I go with bigger receiver - I’ll never two anything so that’s not a consideration

You will definitely want to go with a class III 2" hitch since you are planning on getting a 4-bike bike rack. You will need all of the capacity you can get. I recommend the etrailer Hitch item # e98866. This hitch is custom fit for your 2019 Ford Escape and bolts to it with included hardware.
The etrailer hitch item # e98866 has a 350 lbs maximum tongue weight. Tongue weight is the weight of the bike rack and bikes combined. If you went with a class II 1-1/4" hitch the most you would get is 200 lbs. Additionally class II hitches are generally more expensive and give you less options for bike racks and other accessories like cargo carriers.
I have linked an installation video below to help you get this hitch set up.
The Yakima FullSwing Bike Rack item # Y02465 you were looking at only fits 2" receivers. It has a 40 lbs per bike capacity and swings towards your passenger side so you can access your rear cargo area. The bike rack itself weighs 56 lbs.
If you need a higher capacity bike rack, feel free to email me back and let me know how heavy your bikes are and I will be happy to find one for you.
