Parts Needed To Flat Tow A 2013 Mini Cooper S Countryman JCW 6 Speed Manual

Question:

I have a 2013 Mini Cooper S Countryman All4 John Cooper Works 6 speed manual transmission. I am reading conflicting info on being able to flat tow. We just bought it, it already has base plate installed on it. Was hoping that i can some accurate info in regards to some of the components i may need and if its able to be flat towed. Additionally i am not sure which baseplate it has. I believe it to be a blue ox, but not sure. Its currently in the shop for service but should have it home soon. I am hoping to get it set up to pull behind my 2017 Winnebago Sunova 36Z Class A motorhome. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

According to the manufacturer, Mini Coopers should absolutely not be flat towed. That said, we have found that as long as it is a manual transmission, it should be good to flat tow. You will void your transmission warranty by doing so. If it already has a base plate installed, I would assume that it has already been towed and you should be good to go.

If you are unsure of the base plate brand, feel free to send me a few pictures and I should be able to identify. I would also be curious to know if there is any type of brake light wiring installed. Assuming you have only the blue ox base plate, you will need the following parts to complete your setup;

Tow bar - etrailer SD # e47ZR
Tow bar wiring - Roadmaster smart diode kit # RO94FR
Supplemental braking system - Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR (this is optional, but highly recommended). If you choose to use this braking system you will need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 as well.

I have linked a few of our install/review videos below if you want to take a look.
