Can a Lead Acid Battery Be Used as an Emergency Back-Up Battery if You Have a Lithium Converter

Question:

Just so I am clear, if we are out in the boonies, and somehow run down the lithium battery, totally, then could I replace it with a lead at battery in order to retract the slider, the levelers, and whatever else needs to be done before leaving, and then take the lead acid battery out and put the lithium one back in to charge while driving. I would never use shore power, if a lead acid battery was installed

Yes, you can use your lead acid battery that way. You just need to be extremely cautious. If you have the Progressive Dynamics Lithium 90A 4500 Series Inteli-Power Converter Section # PD4590LICSV, you can only have the lithium battery connected whenever you are charging the batteries, like connected to shore power. If you have the lead acid battery connected and hook up to shore power, you will end up sending way to much power to the battery.

So, yes you can use the battery as an emergency back-up to get your slides and levelers retracted and so on. But I would recommend removing the lead acid battery as soon as you are done with those task to be sure you do not accidentally forget and hook up to shore power.

To be extra cautious you can also just never hook the lead acid battery to the converter. The converter and Fuse panel for the the DC loads are different wires, I would just hook up the fuse panel wire and not the converter wire to the lead acid battery.
