Should Trailer Ground Wire Ran to Frame be Sanded Down to Bare Metal

Question:

Having issues with grounding lights on ironton trailer. Does it make a difference if the metal is painted. Someone said I should sand it down.

If the paint is thick it could prevent proper grounding but typically you don't have to sand off down to bare metal. If the trailer is aluminum framed then that would be an issue and would require running a jumper wire back to the main ground of the trailer wiring.

You might try sanding down to bare metal to see if that helps. If you can spray clear coat over the ring terminal after the fact that would be most ideal.
